Self Portrait with Suspicion

Jeff Lung is a trilingual (English, Spanish, Mandarin) Fulbright scholar and self-taught artist interested in figurative abstract expression. All his life he has been obsessed with filling empty spaces with shapes, and his doodle-scribbled notebooks collected over the years document this quest. He finds great satisfaction in finding relationships among forms and expressing them through emotion. His major influences include M.C. Escher, Alex Grey, J.S. Bach, Alex Ross, Salvador Dali and the Wu-Tang Clan. In his free time, Jeff enjoys being outdoors: running, hiking and cycling. He also loves comic books and live stand-up comedy. Born and raised in Quincy, Illinois, since leaving home at 18 years old he has lived in big cities like Madrid, Beijing, Los Angeles and Chicago. He now spends his time between central Illinois and south Texas.

Artist Statement

I aim to stir deep feelings in the viewer. Each image carries the hope of sparking a meaningful and resonant experience, encouraging one to delve into and embrace the emotions woven into the visual narrative. In other words, I make stuff that looks cool.
