Shows & Exhibitions

One of the best parts of being an artist is receiving that “You have been accepted” email from whatever show or exhibition you applied to. You paid your application fee. The jury reviewed the mass of entries. And out of all of them, YOUR WORK got picked! Huzzah!

It’s such a great, exhilarating feeling. And for someone constantly looking for validation (ahem, moi) it can offer quite a bit of peace. For a little while at least. It’s a reminder that my chosen pursuit is not just a pipedream done in vain (mostly).

So that’s why when I was asked to join the board and step in as the director of Shows and Exhibitions at the Conroe Art League, I couldn’t help but say yes. You mean I get to be the one sharing the good news to hard working artists? I get to be the one making sure the show is run well and of the highest caliber? I get to dress up in a nice suit every once in a while to look the part? Let’s gooooooo!

All kidding aside, I do look forward to this role. The Conroe Art League was my first artist home when I moved to Texas. I’ve had nothing but pleasant experiences inside its walls. Taking this position seems like a logical next step in my development.

In May, the first event — the Student Awards Show — went super well. I had a blast giving out prize money to talented high school seniors and left feeling positive about the future. Now we look to the Fall Show and the many more events on the horizon.

Stay tuned for more! This is just the beginning!
