Prayer in Color

Prayer in Color Series

With the spring festival circuit winding down, I had the good fortune of selling out of most of my small original paintings. Since I like to keep my booth stocked with a variety of price points, including the the $50-$100 range, I felt it was a perfect excuse to play around with my gel print plate, to see what new look I could come up with.

In the last year, I’ve explored Yupo paper, acrylic inks and collage, finding all of them to be worthy of a playful afternoon. Adding the gel print plate to the mix seemed to be a great addition. (Also, they were on clearance at Michaels so I got them dirt cheap. Huzzah!)

One thing I can definitely say about gel printing is: no matter what you think, plan or do, you never know what you’re gonna get. Kinda like me on any given day, right?

Perfectly fitting for my life these days.

So play around I did! And in the end, I came up with some really cool backgrounds. Don’t ask me to repeat any of them. It would be impossible. Sometimes cool just shows up. And the ones that don’t look good just get painted over. You would never know!

Since my life lately has been anchored in prayer, I thought a series of figures in a variety of prayer poses would be fitting. Playing around with different color bases gave me a good idea of where to go as I eventually scale this series up to a bigger size. (Stay tuned!)

For now, these 5x7s are available via my shop while supplies last. Don’t wait! If you like it, grab it now!

Meanwhile, what do you think? Which one is your favorite? Tell me in the comments!
