Vaporwave Vibes

“Alec Vapor”

I remember the first time I heard Com Truise. The song was called Brokendate and its multiple layers of auditory degeneration combined with 80s era synths took me back to my youth. It took me to dubbing and redubbing (and re-re-dubbing) tv shows and movies on VHS tapes until no amount of tracking could fix the image or perfect the awkward, warpy sound.

It was what it was: Nostalgia.

And I loved it.

As I’ve mentioned before, I spend a lot of my time these days seeped in nostalgia. I have no shame in that. I spend as much time as I can making pictures — drawing, painting, imagining. The music I consume takes me back to innocent summers playing Nintendo and jamming on a Casio min keyboard. My YouTube is full of He-Man and Hanna-Barbera.

So when a computer game programing collector friend of mine recently commissioned me to create a Vaporwave inspired piece ensconced in neon vectors and whimsical geometric shapes, I salivated at the chance!

“Alec Vapor” is the result and I think it’s pretty darn cool.
