During the month of November, ten brand new artworks of mine are on view and for sale at the Madeley Gallery of the Conroe Art League in Conroe, TX. This series, “Movement Over Calm,” is one that captures my fascination with athletic disposition over a base of calm centeredness.
Two keys to my sanity are regular exercise and meditation. They complement and fuel one another, leaving me whole. And though I still struggle with shutting off the ruminating noise in my mind, without disciplined physical activity and dedicating time to being present, I would be in much worse state.
The pieces themselves all feature an individual in the throes of athletic or contemplative excellence — all presented through the fractured puzzle pieces of my signature, neurographic style. It’s a style that invites a long look. My favorite art is art that requires multiple views over time — showing us new things along the way.
While looking at the pieces closely, see if you can identify the “heart” and “grit” hidden within. And if you’re in the Houston area, go check them out for yourself.
What are the keys to your sanity? Tell me in the comments!
Dedication to a consistent style and subject matter while shutting out the need to emulate others and staying true to my mission… “To give a voice to those who have been silenced, to give eyes to those who do not want to see and to give a heart to those who do not want to care”. http://www.brettghall.com.
Thanks for sharing, Brett! I totally get it. And when I see your work I know you’re doing it right!
