This weekend I had a great showing at the Woodlands Pride Festival in Town Green Park, and the star series for me among the crowd was my rendition of Texas hill country paintings. Following up on my last blog post — speaking on the story behind a painting — I wanted to share this quick anecdote on the origins of my Texas hill country series.
Truth is: when I first came to Texas and started showing my artworks, I had no idea what the term “Texas hill country” meant. I’d never heard it. So when visitors to my studio would ask me if I had any examples of Texas hill country themed works, I was at a loss.
Instead of googling it and educating myself on the subject first, I decided to just go into my own brain and create something that I thought could be considered Texas hill country based on the ideas that came to me. And what I came up with is this:
Turns out that my rendition doesn’t quite add up to what Wikipedia’s version is (save the hills) but I still prefer mine. Luckily I’m not alone as two of these found new homes over the weekend!
At the time of writing this, I still have one left, so if you’re so inclined, add her to your collection while you can, and help spread the word of this newly defined (and frankly more attractive) tangent of Texas hill country paintings. You’ll always have a story to tell!
Have you ever redefined a concept so that it suits your needs? Tell me in the comments!
