The holidays are upon us and if you’re like me that means basking in nostalgia and reminiscing of simpler times. A snapshot of my perfect holiday includes: getting up early to annoy the parents, cinnamon rolls for breakfast, hot chocolate, Home Alone, video games, A Christmas Story, driving around looking at pretty lights and It’s a Wonderful Life.
Christmas was the holy grail of holidays for me and while opening presents in the morning was the most exciting part, the most fun filled action came in the days and weeks after where I immersed myself in creativity as I played with my Legos and Star Wars guys and authored impromptu story after story. Pure play. Give me some characters and some time and I would come up with an elaborate show.
Ironically, as I live life on my terms these days, I find myself spending most of my time “playing” — further immersed in nostalgia. I draw and paint all day. I read comic books. I write. It’s like every day is a day at Grandma Lois’ house and I’m just reveling in it while trying to make a living.
This Christmas I am excited to take a break from all of that while I venture back home. While there I will seek out my nostalgia while wondering what nostalgia will mean for my nieces and nephews in the years to come.
Mom, get the cinnamon rolls ready.
What sort of holiday nostalgia do you cling to? Tell me in the comments!
PS. While traveling, I’m going to take a couple of weeks off from writing the blog so I can be fully in the experience of chilling out. See you back here in 2023!
Can’t wait to seeeeeeee you!
Me too! See ya soon!
That just made me cry. So happy you remember all of those days. I love you son 💙
